Poudel to head security-development package Kathmandu, April 18: The government has formed a five member political sub-committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Ram Chandra Poudel to implement an integrated security and development package in districts most affected by the Maoist insurgency. Other members of the sub-committee include: Minister for Local Development Govinda Raj Joshi, Foreign Minister Chakra Prasad Bastola, Defence Minister Mahesh Acharya and Minister for Law and Justice Mahanta Thakur. Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala announced the formation of the sub-committee Monday in an address to the nation. The sub-committee will seek a consensus with the opposition to implement the package whose details have not been announced as yet. Nepalnews.com/br/at Doctor arrested on malpractice charge Kathmandu, April 18: Police arrested a doctor on medical malpractice charges after a complaint filed by the husband of a patient who suffered complications after cosmetic surgery involving liposuction in a Kathmandu hospital Monday. The doctor carried out the operation in Glamour Hospital in Kalimati. The patient, Usha is currently undergoing treatment at another hospital in Lalitpur. Investigations as to whether the doctor had a fake medical certificate is ongoing. Last year, the head of the Nepal Medical Council, Bhoj Raj Joshi, was sacked after taking part in operations with an Indian quack named AS Rana after which several patients died. The Nepali currency fell by 25 paisa to Rs 75.10 to the greenback. The depreciation coincides with the fall in the value of the Indian rupee against the dollar. Nepal has a floating exchange rate with convertible currencies and a fixed exchange rate with the Indian rupee. The rate of the dollar has to be altered to maintain the cross exchange rate. Nepal is the first South Asian nation approved by China as a tourist destination for its nationals under a memorandum of understanding. The two countries have also agreed to open non-commercial and non-profit tourism offices as well as encourage third country tourists to visit each other’s country. They have fever and high blood cell counts indicating infections, a doctor said. Koirala to address nation today The streets of
Kathmandu were blackened with burnt tires and littered with stones hurled
by protestors from the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) after they tried to
block the prime minister from entering his office in Singha Durbar Monday
morning. At least three vehicles including one that the prime minister was
riding in were severely damaged when protestors stoned them. The
protestors had put up road blocks in numerous points to stop Koirala from
reaching his office but the premier managed to enter the central
secretariat through the normal route. At least 134 opposition communist
leaders including several Members of Parliament were detained during the
protests, a Home Ministry spokesman said. The detained were being held at
