Machindranath journey starts Saturday Kathmandu, May 18: The Red Machindranath will be pulled to Jawalakhel from Iti Tol in Lalitpur Saturday after a team of astrologers found an auspicious date. The Bhoto or the vest, according to tradition, is displayed on the fourth day of the chariot's arrival at Jawalakhel. For the first time there will be no public holiday in the capital when the vest in being displayed as part of a government policy to reduce the number of public holidays. The festival heralds the beginning of the rainy season. Aggrawal in the heart of the Private schools to reopen from Monday Kathmandu, May 18: Private boarding schools are to be reopened from Monday following a tripartite agreement reached among representatives of government, private schools and student leaders. Private boarding schools all over the country were closed for a week at the call of Maoist students' wing the All Nepal National Free Students Union (Revolutionary). The ANNFSU(R), called a one-week nation wide closure of private boarding schools demanding reduction of fees by 50 per cent, among others. Representatives of government, private schools and the ANNFSU(R) agreed late Thursday that the report of a high level panel formed to study the demands of Maoist students and other aspects of schools would be implemented in order to solve the problems in the education sector. Central president of Maoist student organisation Devendra Parajuli said that if the report of the panel was not implemented, we would continue our protest. Following the threat of Maoist students to close the school for a week, the government formed a five member high-level panel to study the demands and other different aspects of schools and report to the government with necessary recommendation. Maoist students had threatened to close down more than 10,000 private boarding schools all over the country for an indefinite period unless their demands were met. Private boarding schools have refused to reduce fees by 50 per cent. However, they have now agreed to adjust the fees based on the report of the high level panel. China said it will "positively consider" extending the Baglung Beni Highway to Jomsom to link Mustang adjoining Tibet. China agreed to construct 19 kms of the Syprubesi-Rasuwagadhi highway-the second road link between Nepal and Tibet during the just concluded visit of Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji. Zhu called for "press, progress and stability" in Nepal. Zhu flew to Maldives Wednesday after concluding a three-day official visit of Nepal; Zhu will also visit Sri Lanka and Thailand. China will send a study team to Nepal to increase imports to reduce the wide Rs.12 billion trade gap in China's favour, a three-page press statement released after the visit said. Nepal urged Chinese investments in the industrial and tourism sectors. China has agreed "in principle" to allow Nepal to open a consulate in Shanghai, the statement said. China agreed "to give positive consideration" to a Nepali request to renew visa on arrival facility for Nepalis withdrawn by Hong Kong last year after widespread abuse, the announcement said. Zhu's visit will take "bilateral relationship into the new millennium with more co-operation and closer understanding," the statement said. injured when a booby trap set by Maoists went off at Hangdev village in
Sankhuwasabha district Tuesday. A police patrol was returning to base when
the incident happened. Insurgents completely destroyed a police post in a
bomb attack at Pokhari in the sate district Tuesday, police said. There were
