Nepali Team
In Nepal's first game of the tournament versus Oman, Nepal made 153 runs in 50 overs losing 9 wickets. The high scorers were Shakti Gauchan 37, Paras Luniya 28 and Dipendra Chaudhari batting in 21 runs. In reply, Oman was 31 for 4 wickets in 12 overs. Then Oman crashed out making only 17 more runs for a total of 48 all out. Shakti Gauchan took 3 wickets for 10 runs and Sanjam Regmi took 3 wickets while allowing 5 runs only. In its second game, Nepal beat Qatar by 130 runs in the ACC Trophy being played in Singapore. Batting first, Nepal scored 210 runs losing all wickets. The high scorers were Shakti Gauchan Binod Das and Mehboob Alam batting in 53, 36 and 27 runs respectively. In reply, Qatar made only 80 runs with outstanding bowling by Mehboob Alam who took five wickets for just 24 runs. Sanjam Regmi took two wickets for 13 runs. With its second win, Nepal is in a good position to advance to the next round. They play UAE next in July 16. In the game against UAE being played at Singapore Cricket Club today, Nepal made 159 runs in 50 overs. Nepal won the toss and elected to bat. The high scorers for Nepal were Prakash Lunya 35 (not out) and Raju Khadka with 20 runs. Nepal faces its toughest test yet against UAE, the favorites of the tournament. More details to follow about the second half of the match. In its third game of the tournament, Nepal lost to UAE by six wickets. Chasing a target of 159 runs, UAE made 162 runs in 45 overs losing 4 wickets only. Among the Nepali bowlers, Bardan Chalise, Raj Kumar Pradhan and Binod Das took a wicket each, but could not stop UAE. Arshad Ali of UAE was the high scorer with 67 runs. Tomorrow, July 17th's game again Kuwait will decide the 2nd placed in Group A. Malaysia and Hong Kong have already made it through to the second round from Group B. Nepal has reached the finals of the 4th ACC Trophy in Singapore by beating Malaysia by 25 runs in a tense and tightly contested semi final game played at the Indian Association ground. Winning the toss again, Nepal elected to bat and started off shakily. They were 33 for 4 when Shakti Gauchan stepped in and settled Nepal down. At the loss of their 7th wicket, Nepal had a score 175 runs. At the end of 50 overs, Nepal were 181 for the loss of 9 wickets. The high scorers for Nepal were Shakti Gauchan 67, Paras Luniya 28, and B K Das with 38 runs. With Malaysia needing only 182 to win, the Nepali team buckled up and with good bowling and fielding got Malaysia all out for 156 runs. Luck was
on Nepal's side due to poor fielding of Malaysian players who had 4 dropped
catches. In the finals of the 4th ACC Trophy played
today at Singapore Cricket Association’s Kallang
ground, Nepal lost by six wickets to defending champions UAE who lifted the
trophy for the second consecutive time. The high scorers were Paresh Lohani with 52 runs, Shakti Gauchan 47, Paras Luniya 19 and Raju Khadka with 19. Lohani 52 off 79 balls hitting nine boundaries and Gauchan made 47 off 103 balls hitting two boundaries and one six. Needing a low total of 186 runs for victory, UAE reached the target in 38.3 overs with the loss of 4 wickets. The most effective bowler was Binod Das who took two wickets with Raj Kumar Pradhan and P. Luniya one each. Nepal in its last tournament, lost in the plate finals of the Youth World Cup against Zimbabwe. Still with this tournaments results, Nepal qualifies for the Asia Cup that features the test playing nations of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The Asia Cup is a one day international series to be played later. |
