Nepal aid group meeting reaffirms support to Nepal's war against terrorism The Nepal Aid Group at a review meeting held Friday pledged its full support to Nepal's fight against terrorism apart from assuring to back Nepal's development endeavors in the years ahead. Mike O'Brien, Minister at the British Foreign Office chaired the Aid Group meeting in the capital. Speaking at the meeting O'Brien said the Maoist violence is the biggest threat to human rights in Nepal and it is imperative to overcome the threat at any cost. The international community has given its word to the government of Nepal to back its war against Maoist terrorism, the British Minister said after the three hour long meeting. Reaffirming its commitment made at the earlier meeting held in London six months back, the meeting also expressed its worries over the present political crisis in Nepal and the uncertainty of democratic polity. O'Brien welcomed the formation of the new government under the leadership of Lokendra Bahadur Chand Friday. Chand administered the oath of office to other members of the government in the presence of the King. Crown Prince Paras was present on the occasion. Chand was two-time prime minister in the panchayat and assumed office of the head of government for the second time in the restored multi-party system. Chand said Friday he will expand his nine-member government without specifying a date. He told this to reporters at his residence soon after his nomination by the King. Chand also said he is committed to hold early elections. The Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the Nepal Sadbavana Party welcomed the appointments of Chand and Badri Prasad Mandal who were members of the dissolved House of Representatives. "We are proud that a representative of our party has been nominated prime minister," RPP Vice-chairman Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohini said. Hridesh Tripathi, general secretary of the Nepal Sadbavana Party, echoed similar feelings Friday. Formal official reaction has not come from the Nepali Congress party and the CPN-UML to Chand's appointment and the King's rejection of a demand by six parties of the dissolved parliament for inclusion in the interim government. The King appointed Chand the caretaker Prime Minister exactly seven days after sacking Sher Bahadur Deuba for ineptitude because of failure to hold the November 13 elections as scheduled. The King rejected Deuba's suggestion for rescheduling the vote by 14 months. The King unilaterally formed the new government two days after political parties failed to submit names of untainted individuals without electoral ambitions by Wednesday. Khadka gave license for the construction of 12 different hydro projects. Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala who was the then Prime Minister sacked Khadka after he demanded that the post of party president be handed over to a leader from the younger generation. Meanwhile the CIAA has continued to grill ex-Ministers Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta and Chiranjibi Wagle on charges of corruption. It has been found that Wagle’s son Devendra Wagle possesses another bank account at the Standard Chartered Bank Limited. According to the bank sources, junior Wagle has 5.7 million rupees at the bank’s branch office in Kantipath. This is the fourth bank account in the name of junior Wagle that has been made public. Earlier it was known that junior Wagle had nearly 11 million rupees in total in the Bank of Kathmandu, Himalayan Bank Limited and Nabil Bank. The former Minister has been arguing that he had nothing to do with the money, which his son possessed.
