Parties for people-empowerment: Nepal

The five parties’ agitation aims at empowering peoples’ rights more than the 1990’s popular movement did, UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal said Monday.

“We want to make people more powerful than the 1990 movement has made them,” Nepal said refuting allegations that the ongoing movement has no particular target.

On monarchy, Nepal said, “The King wants controlled-democracy, which we cannot agree upon.”  He claimed the King had offered him Premiership.

“I rejected the proposal because I did not wish to go alone without my party and movement-allies,” he said in a press meet organised by Pokhara branch of Nepal Journalists’ Federation Monday. nepalnews.com mr July 7
