Similarly, Central Vice President of Nepal Intellectual Council Bhim Prasad Neupane said that he had also submitted his property details and was given registration number 1133 but still his name was carried among the defaulters. Five opposition parties defied a ban on torch processions slapped in the Valley since the last 22 days during the anti-King protests , eyewitness and police said. The Home Ministry earlier Sunday issued a statement that torch processions had been banned in the Valley since April 19. The clashes, after 6.30 in the evening occurred soon after the Royal Nepal Army said it was ready to protect national interest amid sloganeering against the King. Opposition protests had been peaceful until Saturday. Among those injured were Arjun Narsingh K.C., spokesman of the Nepali Congress, Amrit Bohara of the CPN-UML and Amik Serchan, Chief of the Sanyukta Janamorcha. Central committee member Pradip Gaywali was also injured in the Kathmandu while Bhim Rawal was injured in Dhangadi, Panth said. Two youth leaders were seriously injured in Kathmandu, Pantha said. Traffic was held up as police and protesters exchanged brickbats at Ratna Park and Bhotahiti for nearly 30 minutes after the processions emerged from Ason; police beat back demonstrators with sticks, eyewitnesses said. Police raided the office of the CPN-UML next to the Nepal Electricity Authority at Ratna Park, eyewitnesses said. Besides Kathmandu, clashes have been reported from Lalitpur, Dhangadi, Janakpur, Rajbiraj, Biratnagar and Dharani, Panth said quoting initial party reports. The Defence Ministry and the Royal Nepal Army said in a communiqué Sunday their "grave attention" has been drawn to recent "objectionable, inhuman, rude, disrespectful and unbecoming" comments for sometime from leaders of political parties against the King who is the symbol of the kingdom's national unity and a center of faith. The Ministry did not identify the parties but said they have been in the government in the past. The Ministry said such comments are coming at a time when efforts are being made to establish peace and tranquility in the country through peace negotiations. The Ministry said such parties should instead be playing an "exemplary role in restoring peace and tranquility" when "some relief is being felt." Chief Maoist peace negotiator Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said the "contact" office will remain during the period of the peace talks. "There was no alternative but to make peace talks a success," Dr. Bhattarai told reporters at the office. "Political agenda will be discussed in the third round of peace talks," Dr. Bhattarai said. Representatives of Gurkhas Sunday asked Maoists to withdraw a rebel demand to stop their recruitment in Indian and British armies. The third round of protest ended peacefully despite skirmishes between the striking activists and the police at Bagbazar intersection, according to published reports. Police arrested 54 demonstrators in Mahendranagar and Kanchanpur as they attempted to burn 'effigies' symbolizing 'regressive' forces, Nepal Samacharpatra reported. Those arrested were released after some hours, according to the daily. Security was stepped up in the capital Saturday evening to stave off any untoward incident. Police managed to snatch an effigy at Baghbazar but the protestors got another one immediately and set it ablaze. The police also tried in vain to douse the burning effigy in Ratnapark. The demonstrators went around the major thoroughfares of the city chanting slogans against the royal move. The demonstrators gathered at Bhotahity for a meeting after going around the city centers.
