RPP Central Council meet begins

The second Central Council meeting of the ruling Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) began in Kathmandu Monday.

The meeting will debate on the Maoist problem and the party’s agenda for its solution, party unity and the government’s performance, RPP spokesperson Roshan Karki said. She claimed that despite the walkout of a faction led by Surya Bahadur Thapa, 95 percent of the Central Council members were present at the meeting.

Addressing the inaugural function, RPP chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana said he was committed not to let the party disintegrate. “I will make all possible effort to keep the party united,” he said.

The Thapa-led faction has already opened its office in Kathmandu and has announced to hold a conference to form a new political force.

Speaking at the Central Council meet, RPP vie-chairman Padma Sundar Lawati accused the party chairman of failing to run the party democratically. “The party chairman could not save the party from a split. Now he is hesitating to call the general convention which is the best option available to solve the internal problems,” he said demanding that Rana declare a general convention within two months.

Former prime minister and a senior RPP leader Lokendra Bahadur Chand said the present government, of which the RPP is an ally, was no different than that of the earlier two governments, one led by himself.

The meeting will end on Tuesday. nepalnews.com mbk Dec 06 04
