King inaugurates Central Convention of the Raj Parishad
His Majesty King Gyanendra inaugurated the Central Convention of the Raj Parishad
at Birendra International Convention Centre in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Queen Komal accompanied the King during the inaugural ceremony. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Speaker of the dissolved
House of Representatives Taranath Ranabhatt and other high ranking government officials were present during the ceremony.
Political agendas on contemporary political issues
adopted during the regional meeting of the Raj Parishad, held from Monday to Wednesday, will be discussed during the two-day convention.
Meanwhile, ministers of the major coalition partner of the government, CPN-UML, boycotted the convention. The CPN-UML had on Wednesday appealed to all citizens to stand united against the ‘unconstitutional move of the Raj Parishad.’
Students and
youth organizations affiliated to opposition political parties and ruling UML have been demonstrating against the convention.
