News Prachanda reiterates readiness for UN-mediated talks Maoist supremo Prachanda has reiterated his party’s support to the idea of mediation by the United Nations in the country’s peace process. In a statement issued Thursday, the rebel leader said, ”Based on the experience of previous talks, the CPN-Maoist has expressed readiness for negotiations at the presence and assistance of the United Nations.” The rebel leader also said the party’s longstanding demands for a roundtable conference, an interim government and the election of a constituent assembly were still intact and these were the minimum prerequisites for establishing people’s sovereignty. Prachanda at the same time lashed out at the CPN-UML for its participation in the Deuba government. Ruling out all kinds of support to the present government, he insisted that the UML has deceived the people by joining the government. “The people will not forget easily,” he said. The common minimum program unveiled by the four-parties on Wednesday, according to him, would not lead to any solution. nepalnews.com mbk July 01 04 Related
