Pre-paid mobile service to resume from today

The Nepal Telecom (NT), following directives of the government, has begun the process to resume prepaid mobile phone services from Monday evening, a senior NT official told Nepalnews.

According to Rameswor Karmacharya, the service will resume in a phase wise manner. “About 130,000 people re-registered their prepaid mobile lines, of which around 10, 000 lines will be opened today,” Karmacharya said, adding, “It may take another 7-10 days to reopen all prepaid mobiles.”

Mobile services had been suspended in Nepal after the political development of February 1. However, post paid services resumed partially from 2nd May earlier this year.

On Sunday morning, the Nepal Telecom Employees’ Union staged a two-hour-long sit-in protest in front of the Director General’s office at Bhadrakali, Kathmandu, demanding resumption of the mobile services. They had warned of halting all works at the Telecom if the prepaid mobile phone services were not resumed by August 27. nepalnews.com pd Aug 22 05
