US, Japan grant nearly US $3m to UNHCR, Nepal office
The UNHCR office in Nepal has received a grant of USD 2.76 million
from the governments of the United States of America and Japan.
According to a press statement issued by the UNHCR in Nepal,
it has received USD 1.762 million and USD 1 million from the US
and Japan respectively for the implementation of the Bhutanese
refugee programme for the year 2005.
Expressing sincere appreciation and gratefulness for the contribution,
UNHCR’s Representative in Nepal, Abraham Abraham thanked
both countries for their ‘most generous contribution to
UNHCR’s activities in Nepal,’ the statement said.
Some 105,000 Bhutanese refugees have been sheltering in seven camps in eastern Nepal since the early 1990’s.
