Koirala-Nepal meet
Nepali Congress (NC) president Girija Prasad Koirala met with CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal at Nepal’s residence Wednesday evening.
According to reports on Thursday, the top leaders of the major opposition parties discussed the current political situation in the kingdom and the continuing agitation against ‘regression’.
The two leaders also discussed the NC’s forthcoming general convention and the UML’s ongoing 9th Central Working Committee (CWC) meet. The NC’s 11th convention is scheduled for August 30 -September 2 in Kathmandu.
Meanwhile, at the end of the party’s central committee meeting Wednesday afternoon, UML general secretary Nepal stated that his party was not prepared to go for the republican set-up. He, however, said that party’s political move should be to end the King’s autocratic rule and establish total democracy through an election to a constituent assembly, according to reports.
The CWC meeting will continue Thursday.
