Acharya announces candidacy for NC president
Nepali Congress (NC) leader Narahari Acyarya announced his candidacy for the post of the party president in the upcoming NC’s General Convention on Sunday.
The NC general convention, scheduled to be held in the capital from August 30 to September 02, will see a gathering of about 1,400 delegates who will formally choose the new party leadership.
Present party president and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has already announced his candidacy for the NC’s top post.
Acharya kicked off his election campaign by organizing a press conference in his residence today. Former spokesperson of the NC, Acharya was regarded a close aide of president GP Koirala.
He has recently moved a motion in the party by urging the party leadership to omit all provision related to monarchy from the party’s statute.
According to Acharya he represents change and new thinking, new vision and new culture in the party. “To remain adamant to the outdated belief (constitutional monarchy) will mean nothing other than taking up another course of regression,” he said in the press conference today, according to reports. nepalnews.com pd Aug 28 05
