NC CWC meet continues

With only a day to go for the Nepali Congress (NC) general convention, the central leaders of the country's largest democratic party are discussing on political agendas, which will be presented at the convention.

Hot agenda: Nepali Congress President GP Koirala going through the draft agenda,...

Sunday’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meet concluded without reaching to a consensus on the agenda of monarchy, participants said. The meeting is continuing Monday.

In yesterday’s CWC meeting, majority of the leaders opined that democracy and monarchy could no longer go together, reports said.

NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel and his panel presented a draft on party plans and policies, on which discussions were held. The panel recommendation to the party states that democracy cannot remain safe as long as the monarchy remains in place.

Ram Chandra Poudel, Narahari Acharya, Mahantha Thakur and Mahesh Acharya led the majority of the view: delete the word monarchy from the party’s statute.

Meanwhile, Shailaja Acharya and other leaders close to party president Girija Prasad Koirala, argued that the party couldn’t be made to take a tough stand on the monarchy issue.

Postponed yesterday as it failed to reach to a consensus on the agenda of monarchy, the meeting has resumed Monday so as to settle the debate on Monarchy, it is learnt. nepalnews.com pd Aug 29 05
