986 persons are still missing: NHRC
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said the state has failed to make public status of 888 cases of the total number of complaints registered at the commission. The whereabouts of 98 individual abducted by Maoists remain unknown, according to a statement by the rights watchdog Tuesday on the occasion of the International Day of the Disappeared.
Saying that both the state and non-state actors have been behind the involuntary disappearances of individuals ever since the insurgency began in 1996, the NHRC appealed to the state and the Maoists to immediately make public the whereabouts of people untraced and respect their human rights and international humanitarian laws. nepalnews.com pd Aug 31 05
