Maoist leader arrested in India
An alternate central committee member of the CPN (Maoist) was arrested in Siliguri in the Indian state of West Bengal on Monday evening, state-owned Raido Nepal said Tuesday.
Quoting the West Bengal police, the report said that Maoist leader Kali Bahadur Malla was arrested – following a tip-off - from an apartment at Pradhan Nagar.
Based in Siliguri, Malla was coordinating Maoist activities in the eastern districts of Nepal. He comes from Jajarokot district, one of the worst conflict-hit mid-western districts.
A mobile phone set, IRS. 60,000 cash and Maoist documents were recovered form him, the report added.
Months ago, a senior politburo member and then in-charge of the eastern bureau of the Maoist party, Mohan Baidya, was arrested from the same area and is currently facing detention in West Bengal. nepalnews.com mbk Feb 22 05
