Clashes continue in Kailali (10:00 p.m.)

There are reports of heavy casualty on the part of Maoist insurgents as clashes continue at Durgauli area in the far-western district of Kailali on Monday, latest reports say.

According to security sources, security personnel and Maoist insurgents were engaged in a heavy battle at Durgauli area till late in the evening while security forces have reportedly repulsed the insurgents in Sukkhad area in the same district.

Security sources have estimated several dozen casualties on the part of rebels.Reinforcements and air support have been sent to the sites of clashes, according to reports.

At least a policeman has died during the clashes at Durgauli area, security sources said.

Details are still awaited.

In a separate incident, two policemen have been reported as killed and three others injured during clashes with rebels in mid-western district of Bardiya Monday. The clashes took place when the security personnel had gone to clear a roadblock set up by the insurgents at Ganeshpur area in the district.
