NC (Democratic) to launch nationwide
protests
Nepali Congress (Democratic) party has announced that it will
launch nationwide protests against the Royal Commission for Corruption
Control (RCCC)’s verdict to convict its president and former
premier, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and party leader Prakash Man Singh
on charge of corruption.
A meeting of the NC (Democratic) on Friday said it rejects the
RCCC verdict. The party also termed the verdict as a conspiracy.
The party said it has directed all the party units and sister
organisations to launch nationwide protests demanding dissolution
of what it called ‘unconstitutional’ royal commission.
The Commission on Tuesday had decided to jail Deuba and Singh
two years each and impose a fine of Rs 90 million each holding
them guilty in corruption while awarding a contract of the Melamchi
Water Supply Project.
Both Deuba and Singh reject these allegations.
A statement issued by NC (Democratic) said the party had relieved
president of NC (D)’s district units in Taplejung, Jhapa
and Okhaldhunga Mani Lama, Keshav Kumar Budhathoki and Mahesh
Kormocha “for causing damage to the party.”
Similarly, the party also relieved Ajit Narayan Thapa, Govinda
Bahadur Malla and Narendra Bahadur Chand from their responsibilities.
All of them had supported the royal move of February 1. The party
said it has expelled Madhav Narayan Joshi, Dr Surendra Bahadur
Joshi and Ramchandra Raya, among others, for supporting the royal
takeover and working against the spirit of joint movement being
launched by seven opposition parties. nepalnews.com
