Maoists torch passenger bus in Jhapa
A day after they torched three passenger buses in Ramechap, the Maoist insurgents set ablaze another passenger bus along Mahendra Highway at Biringkhola of eastern Jhapa district on Friday. The bus was heading towards Biratnagar from Kakarbhitta.
According to reports, a group of armed Maoists stopped the bus on the highway, forced the passengers to dismount and set fire to it. The incident disrupted vehicular movement along the highway for hours.
Meanwhile, the rebels have shut down nearly two-dozen health clinics in different villages in the far western district of Baitadi. They shut the clinics saying they were not registered in the ‘people’s government.’
Following the Maoist action, thousands of locals in the villages have been facing problems getting medical facilities, reports said.
Likewise, in Bajhang, the ultras have killed a youth of Chainpur VDC who was abducted from his residence a week ago. According to reports, Khadak Ghimire, 28, was found dead on the banks of a river in the neighboring VDC Wednesday.
Even as Maoists supremo Prachanda recently pledged that his party would not attack unarmed civilians, his guerrillas continue their actions against innocent civilians countrywide.
In Kadamandu, far-western Doti district, dozens of people have fled their villages and have arrived in the district headquarters, fearing Maoists persecution. On July 26, the rebels hurled socket bombs at a public meeting, injuring 16 civilians. nepalnews.com by July 30 05
