Seven parties announce fresh stir; students threaten to shut down colleges

The agitating seven parties have announced nationwide protests against the verdict of Royal Commission on Corruption Control (RCCC) on former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and five others and the recent spate of arrests of student leaders.

According to the parties, they would also protest the ‘repressive move’ against civil servants as well as the proposed ‘nationalist education’.

The nationwide protests will start from August 2, the seven-party task force that coordinates the protest announced Friday. On that day, demonstrations would be staged at Gaushala, Kathmandu .

The agitating parties have also decided to carry out various anti-government protests until August 21 demanding ‘total democracy’. There would be active participation of the alliance in programs organised by the civil society, journalists, human rights groups and other professional organizations.

Meanwhile, the eight student unions have threatened to shutdown all colleges across the country, demanding release of student leaders within 36 hours.

The unions Friday asked Tribhuwan University to take steps for the release of the detained student leaders. The government, according to student unions, has taken into custody 13 leaders from across the country including seven from the capital. nepalnews.com by July 30 05
