Heat wave kills six
Soaring temperatures have claimed six more lives in the Terai, reports said.
Five more persons have diei in southern Dhanusha district, boardering India, over the last three days, reports said.
The dead have been identified as 60-year-old Dhanushi Mandal, 55-year-old Ram Dulari Mandal and 50-year-old Degres Mandal of Basbitti VDC, reports citing police said. Similarly, 15-year-old Dulari Devi of Janakpur and 30-year-old Saurabi Lal of Yadukuha VDC also died of heatstroke.
In Saptari, one 26-year-old Sakaldev Ram, died of heatstroke.
Four people have already died of heat in Rautahat so far. In the southern districts, snakebite cases have also increased. Normal life has severely been affected by the heat wave in the entire Terai region. There are 20 districts in the Terai region.
Cases of chickenpox, Hepatitis, Typhoid, malaria, kala-azar and diarrhea have broken out in various districts. The government has urged the public to take safety measures and to remain safe from the scorching heat.
In Kathmandu, the mercury hit 35-degree Celsius Wednesday; the highest in eleven years. On May 1994, Kathmandu had recorded 35.2 c, according to the officials at the Weather Forecasting Division at the TIA.
On Wednesday Bhairwaha witnessed the highest temperature of 43.7 c followed by Dipayal -42.2 c, Janakpur- 42, Nepalgunj- 41.9 c, Dhangadi- 41.2 c and Simra- 40.2 c. nepalnews.com pd June 01 05
