36 killed, over 70 injured in Chitwan landmine explosion (news update)

The death toll in Chitwan landmine explosion has reached 36, while over seventy passengers have been injured in the explosion, according to fresh reports from Chitwan.

Three among the dead are reported to be sucurity personnel. Reports also said that some one dozen security personnel were travelling in the bus.

However, the authorities are yet to confirm the deaths of security personnel.

Over hundred passengers were travelling in the bus.

The incident took place at around 8 in the morning. The explosion site is reportedly a bridge over the local Mudhekhola in Kalyanpur VDC, Madi area of Chitwan district.

Some critically injured passengers have been brought to Kathmandu via helicopter for treatment while those sustaining minor injuries are undergoing treatment at Bharatpur hospital in the district, security sources said.

Forces have launched search operation against the insurgents.
