| Giri says he is unaware of being blacklisted by NBL
Cabinet vice-chairman Dr Tulsi Giri Sunday said he was unaware of being blacklisted by the state-owned Nepal Bank Limited for defaulting loans obtained two decades ago.
“I have already made things clear about it. The bank has not given me any letter. I’ve no idea about its blacklist,” Giri told reporters after a program in Kathmandu. “I’m least aware as to where this issue came from,” he insisted.
Giri rose to controversy after his name appeared in the NRB blacklist for wilfully defaulting Rs 17.4 million.
A report in Kantipur daily on Saturday said that a private company called Himalaya Plastic Pvt Ltd chaired and jointly-owned by Giri, had in February 1986 borrowed Rs 2 million from the NBL with Giri himself being the guarantor. The daily ran an editorial today urging Giri to resign from his post on moral grounds as he has been named in the loan default scam.
Asked if was planning to step down in the face of controversies, an obstinate Giri counter-questioned, “Where does the question of resignation arise?” nepalnews.com mbk June 12 05
