Maoists abduct 200 youths

A group of armed Maoist insurgents Wednesday abducted at least 200 local youths from various VDCs in western Gulmi district to impart Maoist education.

The youths were from north-eastern VDCs of Shantipur, Harrachaur, Harewa and Gwagha, reports said Friday. The Maoists said they will release all the youths after a four-day training.

Fearing abduction, some youths have fled their villages to Butwal, while the parents and relatives of those abducted are worried, reports said.

Meanwhile, Maoist insurgents in mid-western Dailekh district have freed a security personnel- Hikmat Bahadur Thapa- in presence of local journalists. The Maoists had abducted Thapa nearly 3 weeks ago while he was on the way home in Chupra bazaar. nepalnews.com pd June 17 05
