Fierce clashes in Arghakhanchi (6:00
p.m.)
Heavy gunfight has erupted between the security forces on patrol and the Maoist insurgents at Khana area in the western district of the Arghakhanchi, reports and sources said.
The gunbattle that started from around 8:00 a.m. Saturday was
still going on until 6 in the evening, security sources in Kathmandu
told Nepalnews. The area is 5 km west of the district headquarters,
Sandikharka.
Security sources claimed that over half a dozen Maoists were killed in the encounter while 17 security personnel were injured. All injured security personnel have been brought to the district headquarters for treatment.
Reinforcement has been sent to the area, the security sources added.
The casualties on the Maoist side are yet to be confirmed independently while details of the incident are still awaited. nepalnews.com mbk/by June 25 05
