Maoists abduct 150 students, other details

The Maoist insurgents have abducted at least 150 students from Suda Secondary School in far-western district of Kanchanpur.

According to reports, the insurgents- hundreds in strength- took away the students in broad daylight on Friday, apparently to impart Maoist education to them. The students were attending classes at the time of abduction, reports quoting security sources said.

The whereabouts of the abducted students are not known.

In Salyan, a mid-western district, Maoists insurgents Saturday bombed MM Academy and damaged two buildings, reports said.

No casualties are reported in the explosion. A primary school, MM Academy is the only private boarding school in the district. The school is situated in Khalanga, district headquarters.

Meanwhile, private and government schools in Makwanpur district remain closed for the past three weeks owing to a strike called by the Maoist-affiliated ANNISU-R (All Nepal National Independent Students Union- Revolutionary). The strike has kept over 30,000 students in the district out of school. nepalnews.com pd June 26 05
