Protests in Butwal, Baglung; DAO Dailekh bans protests
Fourteen students were arrested Saturday from a protest rally demanding restoration of democratic process in the country in Butwal, reports said. The protests were launched by the Joint Students’ Protest Committee.
According to reports, the students had barred vehicular movement at Mediachowk demanding immediate end to the ‘authoritarian regime.’ The arrested students are detained in District Police Office in Butwal.
In Baglung, students affiliated to the agitating political parties staged protests against the February 1 royal takeover and recent hike in the price of cooking gas. They, issuing a press statement, have demanded the government withdraw the price-hike decision.
The authorities, last week, raised the price of cooking gas by Rs 100 per cylinder making the new price at Rs 900 per cylinder.
Meanwhile, District Administration Office, Dailekh, has imposed ban on rallies, meetings and any kinds of political gatherings in the district headquarters from Friday. Agitating parties have, however, vowed to defy the order. nepalnews.com pd Jun 26 05
