Journos arrested
Police have intervened in a peaceful demonstration being organized by a group of journalists on Wednesday and has arrested five of them.
According to Nepal Press Union (NPU)—the organizer of the protest, police arrested NPU president Murari Kumar Sharma, vice president Bindu Kanta Ghimire, central committee members Kiran Pokhrel and Shital Koirala and Nuwakot district unit president of the NPU, Shiva Devkota, while they were trying to enter Singha Durbar—the main government secretariat.
They were planning to stage a protest in front of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC)—which is housed inside Singha Durbar—demanding total press freedom.
In a statement, NPU has condemned the police intervention and has demanded immediate release of detained journalists.
