Govt authorities intervene in NGO work
The NGOs working in mid-western Nepal have alleged state authorities of intervening in their work illegally, reports Thursday said.
The mid-western committee of the NGO Federation, amid a press conference Monday, said that army, administrators and the newly formed monitoring committees have started interfering in their work.
They demand project files, budget and it’s implementations, from the active NGOs in the area, according to reports.
According to Kishore Neupane, treasurer of the committee, army officials have demanded work details and budgets from active NGOs in Jumla. “After the royal takeover, army personnel have begun interfering our work. They even go through our secret files. Zonal administrators have also started such activities recently,” he said.
In Banke, district monitoring committee has dispatched letters to the active NGOs asking them to ‘furnish details of the project programmes and budgets.’
Meanwhile, Dal Rawal, president of the mid western committee of the NGO Federation, expressed grief on the actions of the government officials. He, moreover, urged the state to cooperate with the NGOs rather than harass them, according to Nepal Samacharpatra daily.
According to experts, the army officials and the monitoring committees are not the appropriate bodies to monitor and evaluate their (NGOs’) work. nepalnews.com pd June 30 05
