Protests against newly appointed DDC chairman in Banke
All quarters in the district, including royalist organizations, have protested the appointment of Chet Bahadur Thapa as DDC chairman in Banke, a daily reported Thursday. They have demanded an immediate removal of Thapa from the post.
According to Nepal Samacharpatra daily, royalist organizations in the district have written a letter to the Local Development Ministry requesting it to discharge ‘corrupted’ Thapa from the newly appointed post.
A former chairman of the Kohalpur Nagar Development Committee, Thapa is accused of involvement in several corruption cases in the district, reports said. The Appellate Court had alleged Thapa of irregularities while selling land in 2003, it added.
The government had, last month, nominated chairmen and vice-chairmen in 25 DDCs across the country. Of them, chairman of the Gulmi District Development Committee (DDC) Purna Bahadur KC and Khotang DDC vice-chairman Tej Bahadur Basnet, immediately resigned from the post. nepalnews.com pd June 30 05
