Maoists open fire at passenger bus, abduct dalits

Maoist insurgents indiscriminately opened fire at a passenger bus and killed a driver along the Mahendra highway in eastern Sirah district on Tuesday. A minor was severely injured in the incident.

According to the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR) of the Royal Nepalese Army, the dead have been identified as Michhe Sarki of Devisthan of Parbat. The injured minor- Nitesh, 7- was from Simara of Bara.

In a similar incident nearby, Maoists opened fire at another passenger bus injuring Sher Bahadur Sunuwar of eastern Panchthar district. The injured Sunuwar and Nitesh were airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment.

The reasons for the Maoist action are not known.

In Nuwakot, Maoists, Monday, abducted five innocent dalits from Belkot of Nuwakot district. The whereabouts of the abductees and reasons behind the abductions are not known.

Meanwhile, 11 Maoist bodies and sophisticated arms and ammunition were recovered at Chisapani area of eastern district of Udaypur till Wednesday. Dozens more rebels are suspected killed, but the bodies have not been found. Search operations are still underway, the DPR said.
