Government imposes day long curfew in valley (7:25 a.m.)

The government has imposed day long curfew in the valley to thwart a major mass meeting of the Seven Party Alliance (SPA).

Issuing separate notices, the District Administration offices of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur imposed curfew in Kathmandu, Lalipur, Bhaktapur and Kritipur from 10 a.m. in the morning to 9 p.m. in the evening from Saturday.

The government imposed curfew on the third day of the four day long general strike called by the SPA citing Maoist's infiltration in the mass meeting of the SPA.

Hundreds of opposition activists have been taken into custody during the demonstrations of the past two days.

The SPA is planning to hold a major mass meeting today and warned that it will hold the mass meeting despite any hurdles created by the government.

The government has also disconnected mobile telephone service.

The government has also imposed daylong curfew on January 20 to thwart similar mass meeting of the SPA. nepalnews.com pb Apr 08 06
