King grants audience to Indian special envoy
His Majesty King Gyanendra granted audience to India’s special envoy to Nepal, Karan Singh, at the Narayanhity Royal Palace Thursday.
The King and the special Indian envoy had one-to-one conversation for about an hour from 11:00 a.m. over the prevailing political turmoil in Nepal, it is learnt. Singh handed over Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s letter to the King, which outlines the Indian stance regarding the present crisis and its possible outlet.
After holding separate meetings with Nepali Congress (NC) president Girija Prasad Koirala, CPN (UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and NC (Democratic) president Sher Bahadur Deuba Wednesday evening, Singh told journalists that he hoped that a solution to Nepal’s crisis would come out after his meeting with the King.
He met Rastriya Janashakti Party and former Prime Minister chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa at his residence Thursday morning and discussed the existing crisis.
Singh arrived in Kathmandu Wednesday afternoon. Indian foreign secretary Shayam Saran is also in Kathmandu as part of the Indian ‘mission’.
