Writ filed against Education Bill
A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court demanding withdrawal of the Education Bill, which has invited nationwide student protests over the last few days.
The writ filed on Thursday by Pro Public, an NGO, stated that the court issue a mandamus order to the government to revoke the bill which “contravenes the ‘parliamentary proclamation’ and various national and international humanitarian laws. It also claimed that the bill is intended at giving permanent status to all the temporary teachers working in public schools--without subjecting them to competition.
The bill passed by the House of Representatives has a provision to give permanent status to the temporary appointments in public schools through international examination.
Students across the country have been protesting against the ‘discriminatory’ bill since last week while Education Minister Dr Mangal Siddhi Manandhar has ruled out the possibility of withdrawing the bill. nepalnews.com mk Dec 08 06
