UML affiliated students organize Chhaka jam; torch a police van
All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), the student wing of the CPN (UML), the second largest constituent of the coalition government, organized a half hour long Chhaka jam (traffic movement halt) in front of all campuses across the country Friday morning as part of their ongoing protest programmes initiated to pressurize the government to appoint top officials at various Universities.
Students chanted slogans demanding immediate fulfillment of vacant posts at the universities.
Student clashed with police in front of Amrit Science Campus Lainchour during the traffic blockade. Students informed that they torched a police van following the clash.
Traffic movement of the valley was affected due to the protest during the morning hours.
The students allege that the appointments are being delayed due to the Prime Minster. The student union launched the protest programme after the government failed to fill the vacant posts at various Universities for months. nepalnews.com pb Dec 22 06
