Govt to reinstate police posts, send back VDC secretaries

The government has decided to reinstate displaced police posts and send Village Development Committee (VDC) secretaries back to their respective VDCs in all parts of the country.

The meeting of the council of ministers held this morning at prime minister's residence in Baluwatar decided to send all secretaries to their respective VDCs to start compilation of the voters' name list scheduled to begin from mid January. The government has directed the secretaries to reach their respective VDCs before January 9.

The cabinet took this decision to ensure that constituent assembly elections are held within mid-June next year. Ministers said the VDC secretaries who do not reach their offices by the stipulated time would be terminated from their jobs. The Ministry of General Administration has been given the responsibility to make arrangements for the above.

Similarly, the cabinet meeting decided that reinstatement of the police posts was essential to control crimes and create safe and fearless environment to hold the CA polls.

On Sunday, the prime minister had urged Maoist chairman Prachanda not to put obstacles for re-establishment of police posts and return of VDC secretaries.

The Maoists have been obstructing the reinstatement of police posts and return of VDC secretaries to put pressure on PM Koirala for immediate promulgation of the interim constitution, formation of the interim parliament and government.

The cabinet has decided to formally ask the Election Commission to start works for holding election to constituent assembly and urge the political parties to coordinate with government for creating an conducive environment for the polls.

However, Monday's cabinet meeting failed to discuss the issue of the proposed ambassadors and the report submitted by the Rayamajhi commission in absence of deputy prime Minister KP Oli who is ill. nepalnews.com ia Dec 25 06
