Maoists seize documents from VDC secy, attack policemen

Maoists in Rolpa have seized the documents from a secretary of Kumen VDC Pushpa Acharya on Friday, saying they would not allow the government to work before the formation of the interim government.

Local school teachers had invited Acharya, who was living in district headquarters, for birth registration of the children in the VDC. The Maoist cadres took away the birth registration file and other important documents from Achayra while he was registering births of children in a local school.

The Maoist cadres said the work was done without taking their consent.

In another incident, the Maoists in the eastern district of Khotang, disrupted the VDC council meeting scheduled for today. They are also putting pressure to remove the police post in Chisapani, which was re-established recently.

Due to disturbances created by the Maoists, the budget allocated for development activities in VDCs has not been used. Soon after the ceasefire, the Maoists had stated they would not put any obstacles in development activities.

In yet another report, Maoist activists in Nawalparasi beat five policemen including Sub Inspector Tek Bahadur Kunwar saying they should return to district headquarters. The post in Rajapur area was re-established on Thursday. The injured policemen have been admitted to Kawasoti hospital for treatment.

Earlier today, Prachanda, in telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, had agreed to allow re-establishment of the police and return of the VDC secretaries to ensure that the constituent assembly elections are held in the stipulated time. nepalnews.com ia Dec 29 06
