Tripartite meeting fails to finalise arms management accord
Despite claiming to the media that a tripartite deal on management of arms and armies would be signed Sunday evening, representatives of the government, United Nations and CPN (Maoist) failed to finalise the deal.
The negotiators deferred the meeting for Monday as they failed to agree on the number of Maoist combatants who would be allowed to carry weapons for the security of their camps.
Sources, meanwhile, said the tripartite meeting is yet to settle few other issues including that of integration of Maoist combatants into the Nepali Army after the constituent assembly elections.
Maoist negotiators had left the talks venue, Summit Hotel in Lalitpur, saying that the agreement would be signed at around 6:00 pm today following consultations with their leadership but later the media persons present there were told that the signing ceremony had been canceled and that negotiations would resume at 1:00 pm on Monday.
The tripartite meeting has been discussing the modalities of the management of arms and armies since Friday.
Maoist leader Suresh Ale Magar and PLA deputy commanders Nanda Kishor Pun ‘Pasang’, Barsha Man Pun ‘Ananta’, Baldev and Prabhakar represented the Maoist side while John Norris and Jan Eric Wilhemson represented the UN.
