JP Gupta quits parliament
Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta of Nepali Congress announced his resignation from the interim parliament on Monday.
Gupta, who joined the Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) as its joint coordinator yesterday, submitted his resignation to Speaker Subas Nemwang today. He also shunned the membership of the Nepali Congress.
Gupta was present at the press conference organised by four Madhesi MPs following their resignation on December 10, but had not said anything then about his intention to resign.
Minister Mahantha Thakur of Nepali Congress, Hridayesh Tripathi of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi), Mehendra Yadav of CPN (UML) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Ram Chandra Raya had announced their resignations from the parliament as well as their party positions, citing the ‘indifference’ shown by the state towards the problems facing the Terai people. nepalnews.com mk Dec 24 07
