PM says he will not 'tolerate' attacks on press freedom
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that he will not tolerate attacks of any form on press freedom.
Meeting with a delegation of Media Society, including publishers of major newspapers, PM Koirala said he will not compromise with anyone on the issue of press freedom.
The delegation had gone to Baluwatar to meet the PM in the wake of disruption of distribution of daily newspapers The Himalayan Times and Annapurna Post by the Maoist-affiliated trade union. Earlier, Nepal Samacharpatra daily and Mahanagar eveninger were also similarly disrupted.
After the PM was apprised about the disruptions, the latter assured to hold talks with Maoist leadership over the issue. He urged the media people not to bow down before any undue pressure. nepalnews.com sd Jul 22 07
