EC seeks manpower from judicial sector
The Election Commission (EC) held a meeting with the Judicial Service Commission on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of mobilising the judicial sector manpower for constituent assembly polls slated for November 22.
Employees of the judicial sector can be deployed to other areas only on approval by the Chief Justice, who chairs the Judicial Service Commission.
The EC officials urged the Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Poudel to mobilise employees for the tasks. EC proposed that the chief election officers in the districts be appointed from among the officials of the judicial sector.
Reports however say no concrete decision was taken during the discussion.
The EC has been saying its existing workforce is not enough for conducting the polls and has asked the government to fill the vacant posts. However, the process of the new recruitment in the civil service has been halted due to government's failure to appoint officials at the Civil Service Commission. nepalnews.com ia July 24 07
