House suspended for two days as leaders promise to find compromise by then
In a dramatic turnaround, the parties decided in the last minute to suspend the ongoing special session of the parliament for two days. They did so when it had become apparent that the House was headed towards voting on Maoist proposal.
Another House session will be held on 2 pm, Sunday. Leaders have claimed that they will find compromise on Maoist proposal by then.
After the discussion among communist parties including Unified Marxist Leninist (UML), Maoists, Unity Center and People's Front failed to reach to any conclusion, they decided to prolong the House session with NC's consent.
Reports say Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala hoped that Sunday's House session will see understanding among the parties.
The decision to suspend the House came at a time when it appeared headed towards a divisive voting to decide the Maoist proposal.
Earlier, the Speaker had announced recess of half an hour at 7:10 pm after the whips of NC, UML and Maoists addressed the House. Each of them presented their own respective positions and labeled charges against each other for the deadlock. nepalnews.com sd Nov 02 07
