Whereabouts of missing schoolboy still unknown

Police are still clueless about the condition and whereabouts of eight-year-old boy Samir Kafle, who went missing after being abducted from Ason in Kathmandu 56 days ago.

The boy’s mother Sita Kafle said that her son Samir, who is a third-grader at the Annapurna Higher Secondary School, had gone missing after going to play with his friends nearby their rented apartment in the evening. “Since that day he has not come home,” said Sita.

Sita Kafle told a newspaper that two phone calls have been received to date regarding the incident. “One phone call came within 24 hours of his going missing and said he was ok,” she told the Kathmandu Post.

The next call came two weeks ago from a telephone booth at Soyambhu. The caller sounded old and his accent was Newari. “In typical Newari accent, the man said my boy was in the house of one Hari Shrestha in the Jaisidewal area,” Sita narrated, adding that she is clueless why and who took her boy away.

The Crime Branch said that a police team under the command of Deputy Superintendent of Police Uttam KC of the Metropolitan Crime Branch, Hanumandhoka is investigating the case. Police said they have been searching for the missing boy in and outside the valley.

Meanwhile, to pressure the authorities to find eight-year-old Samir Kafle, the Institutional School Teachers Union (ISTU) on Monday organised a rally from Ratna Park to Hanumandhoka. Teachers and students of Annapurna High Secondary School, ISTU members, family and neighbors participated in the rally.

Baburam Timilsina, central member of ISTU, said that ISTU is seriously concerned and would come up with more programmes for pressuring the police to find the boy. nepalnews.com ag Nov 06 07
