Prisoners end hunger strike after 40 days

Prisoners at various jails across the country who were on hunger strike from the past one and half months protesting the 'inhuman conditions' they are living under in prison houses ended their strike on Tuesday.

The prisoners of Dillibazaar jail and those in Birgunj and other places broke their hunger strike in the presence of human rights activists.

The jail inmates took the decision following the National Human Rights Commission's serious initiatives to get their demands fulfilled and the government's positive attitude.

Demanding implementation of the recommendation of the high-level advisory committee on prison reforms formed by the government, the jail inmates had been protesting and were on hunger strike since September 27. They have been demanding better infrastructure and facilities in jails. nepalnews.com ag Nov 07 07
