UML urges Maoists to stop attacking media persons
Describing the murder of Bara-based journalist Birendra Shah by Maoists as a deliberate action, the CPN-UML has asked the Maoist leadership to stop attacking media persons.
Issuing a press statement today, the UML took strong exception to the Maoist leadership’s statement that the party was not involved in Shah’s murder and the incident has to do with personal enmity. The UML further said Maoists should have publicly apologised rather than trying to disown responsibility for the murder.
“Considering the fact that their party has entered the peaceful democratic process, our party urges the Maoist leadership to correct their violent actions,” the statement issued by senior UML leader Amrit Bohara said.
Taking the government to task for not acting on time to trace Shah's whereabouts following reports of Shah's abduction, the UML also asked the government to immediately initiate action against the perpetrators and provide with education and other basic facilities to Shah’s children. nepalnews.com mk Nov 07 07
