Media requested to black out Maoist news

As a show of protest against the killing of journalist by Maoists, the National Network of Weeklies and Fortnightlies has urged all media to black out the positive news and articles related to the Maoists till December 1.

The network made the decision, Wednesday, to request for the news black out in the face of continued attack against journalists.

The network has also urged the Maoists to deliver full commitment to respect the press freedom and security of journalists. They have asked the Maoists to tender apology over killing journalist Birendra Shah.

Meanwhile, in various parts of the country, local journalists continued to protest the Maoists for killing Shah.

In Banke district, the local unit of Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has urged the journalists not to meet with Maoist leaders or workers alone. They have asked the journalists to exercise caution while doing so.

Since Shah was killed after he was lured by the Maoist workers who promised him to tell about wood smuggling, the Banke unit of FNJ has urged the journalists to inform them if any journalist is going to meet with Maoist workers and leaders. nepalnews.com sd Nov 08 07
