PM says changing of government leadership is not a big deal
Responding to reports that other parties may be trying to change the leadership of the government, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said that it is not a big deal.
He likened the efforts of the communist parties to change the government leadership as 'changing of the torn shoe'. "It will be decided only after the seven-party meeting," he said.
He also dared the communist parties to try and garner two-third majority in the parliament to amend the constitution to implement the proposals on republic and proportional representation system passed by the parliament.
"I reckon they will now bring a motion in the parliament to amend the constitution. That will need two-third majority. Let them garner it," he said giving a clear hint that NC would be opposed to such motion. Without NC's support, the motion will not get two-third majority.
PM Koirala also said he wanted to see the constituent assembly elections held by the end of the current Nepali year (mid-April, 2008).
Talking to journalists at his residence in Biratnagar on Thursday morning, Koirala said if Maoists refuse from re-joining the government or put obstacles in the polls process, it will be the proof that they don't want the election.
He also expressed hope that a new date for the polls will be announced after seven-party meeting which he said will be held after he returns to capital on Friday.
Koirala had earlier expressed satisfaction over the 'democratic' practice being adopted by the Maoists to decide their proposal on republic and proportional representation system at the parliament.
Koirala had reached Biratnagar on Wednesday for three-day rest. nepalnews.com ia Nov 08 07
