Garbage pile up in the city

Heaps of stinking garbage have piled up in major thoroughfares of the capital as the locals of dumping site in Sisdole-Okharpauwa have blocked the Kathmandu metropolitan city from transporting the garbage there.

Claiming excesses by the cadres of Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL), locals of Sisdole have blocked the dumping site. They claim that YCL cadres had thrashed the local youths.

Meanwhile, chief of environment section of KMC Rabin Man Shrestha told Nepal Samacharpatra that maximum volume of garbage are collected during Tihar festival, which has led to a situation where even the space in Teku transfer station has been totally filled.

He said that since last four days, the KMC has stopped collecting garbage from streets due to lack of space to dump them.

The KMC has called for political resolution to this recurring problem. nepalnews.com sd Nov 13 07
