Journalists at a rally in front of Singh Durbar gate, Thursday morning,...
The detained journalists included president of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Kathmandu and Lalitpur district committees Yuvaraj Bidrohi and Ujir Magar respectively, Dhan Bahadur Magar and Gobinda Chaulagain of FNJ Kathmandu, Bishwomani Subedi, Kalpana Sharma among others.
They were kept at Mahendra Police Club in Exhibition Road.
According to Bidrohi, they were detained on charges of demonstrating in front of Singh Durbar - which has been marked as a 'prohibited area' by the government for demonstrations or rallies.
The demonstration was organised at the initiative of the FNJ Kathmandu district committee to protest the inability of the government and ignorance of the Maoist party to arrest and punish the culprits involved in murder of journalist Birendra Shah and find out those involved in abduction of another journalist Prakash Thakuri, who has been missing since July from Kanchanpur.
FNJ recently decided to step up protests against growing attacks on press and government's reluctance towards guaranteeing security to the journalists. nepalnews.com ia Nov 15 07
