UML starts internal discussion on its role in winter session
The UML leadership has started internal discussion regarding the party’s role in the upcoming winter session of the interim parliament.
An informal meeting of the UML Standing Committee was organised at the central office in Balkhu Friday afternoon amid controversial statements from key party leaders regarding the decisions passed recently by the special session of the House.
The UML, which tried to mediate between Nepali Congress and the Maoists in recent debates over issues like immediate announcement of the republic through interim parliament and adoption of full proportional election system, has repeatedly asked both the parties to find to a common ground.
According to UML sources, the standing committee also discussed the achievements made during the bilateral and multilateral talks held with various political parties so far for finding solution to the current political deadlock. The current debate over the possible change in the government leadership also figured during the meeting.
Party general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal had earlier directed the party leaders not to speak in favour of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala. Some UML leaders want immediate implementation of the House decisions while few others including K.P Sharma Oli are opposed to this idea. nepalnews.com ia Nov 16 07
